Andrew and his associates are all members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Andrew Higgins

Clinic Owner and Lead Physiotherapist

Professional career:

Andrew is the most well-respected physiotherapist in the Plymouth area following a long career both in the NHS and in the Ministry of Defence.


Andrew qualified in 1996 from Brunel University and has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal problems. As well as opening Andrew Higgins & Associates Physiotherapy & Sports Injuries Clinic in 2006, Andrew is also the Lead Physiotherapist at HMS Drake, managing a large department of physiotherapists and Physical Training Instructors in supporting Naval and Marine personnel back to deployment.


Prior to this role, Andrew was the Clinical Specialist in the Accident & Emergency Department at Derriford Hospital, working closely with Emergency and Orthopaedic consultants to provide his specialist opinion on injuries sustained. 


Having maintained a long and specialised career in the local area, Andrew has forged an enviable reputation with patients, GP's and Clinical Consultants.


Andrew is available at Woolwell on Fridays and Plymstock on Fridays and Saturdays.


Paul Dowrick

Senior Associate Physiotherapist

  • sports physiotherapy; especially rugby, running & cycling


Professional career:


Having qualified in 1997, Paul joined the clinic in 2006. He has expertise in the assessment and treatment of patients with sports-related injuries; in particular, running and rugby. Paul has been the lead physiotherapist for U15 and U16 South West and Devon Rugby Teams.

As well as senior physiotherapist at Derriford Hospital, Paul has also been the Clinical Specialist in the Lumbar Spine Pathway Clinic at Derriford. His current role there is as a Specialist in hips, working alongside orthopaedic consultants to provide his expertise.


Paul has recently taken over the Friday clinic at Woolwell. As well as seeing patients referred by the GP's there, Paul is available to see any private patients between 9am and 6pm every Friday.


You can still see Paul at Plymstock every Wednesday and Friday.

Holly Ferrar

Associate Physiotherapist


Specialist Areas:

  • sports physiotherapy, especially triathalon and hockey
  • manual therapy


Professional career:


Graduating in 2004, Holly joined the clinic in 2010. A keen sports woman herself, Holly has utilised her sports-specific knowledge to her treatment as well as working as a senior physiotherapist at Derriford Hospital.
