An initial assessment is required to establish the cause of the symptoms and develop a plan of treatment if required.
A detailed history of your complaint, including any other medical history is taken prior to any physical examination. With your consent, you may be required to remove items of clothing as appropriate to enable examination. After examination the physiotherapist will discuss and explain the outcomes and decide together on an appropriate treatment plan.
A wide variety of treatment options are available, selected to address your specific complaint. All can be applied comfortably following full explanation and consent.
Treatments that are offered at the Clinic include:
- Joint mobilisation and manipulation
- Soft tissue mobilisation and massage
- Exercise therapy – Muscle Imbalance, Pilates, gym ball rehabilitation
- Acupuncture (for pain relief)
- Electrotherapy
- Rehabilitation – exercise regime development
- Guidance on and prevention of injury
- Postural and gait re-education
- Home exercise prescription
You may be expected to complete a home exercise program between visits to the clinic as part of your treatment.
If required, and with your consent, you may be referred to your GP for further investigations such as blood tests and x-rays or steroid injections. Referral for private MRI scan can be arranged.
Your first visit will last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour in order to complete the assessment and start your treatment if appropriate. Subsequent visits will last from half an hour to 45 minutes.
Patients are encouraged to ring the clinic for advice or with any questions. Should the physiotherapist be busy, he or she will gladly ring you back.
On completion of treatment, a discharge letter will be sent to your GP (and referrer if appropriate).
Should your therapist feel that physiotherapy is not an appropriate method of treatment for your problem, you will be referred to your GP.
